Dear SCARA Member,

Sadly we have been notified of the death of Patrick Moore on 1st June 2021. David Charlesworth has kindly sent the following message:

It is with regret that we have to advise the death of Patrick Moore OBE on the 1st of June at the age of 90. Pat, a SCARA member, played a pivotal role in the early development of OCL and served as Commercial Manager in Beagle House up to 1991 when he left to nurse his wife Molly. Pat’s career in shipping began in 1947 when he joined the General Steam Navigation Company in London, although he soon had to do National Service for two years with the Royal Navy. At the behest of Doug Best he joined OCL in 1969. Pat contributed greatly to the early development of international commercial systems and processes to handle the massive changes brought about by containerisation. He will be remembered by all those who were part of the OCL Commercial team.

Outside of work Pat was heavily involved in supporting various charities and for this was awarded the OBE.

Pat’s funeral took place in West Wickham on the 30th of June and can be viewed using the following link (password: funeral). Mention is made of his time with OCL and of many key industry players from that time.
